For Williamsport author D.J. Deppen, writing “just happened one day, completely unplanned.”

Deppen is the author of “Whispering Moments,” a book of poetry that he said was inspired by the way he views love and how he believes it should be.

“I had these thoughts running through my mind about what a perfect romance would be like, and what I would want that to be like, and started to put it on paper,” Deppen said. “It was like a form of therapy.”

These words are what evolved into “Whispering Moments,” published by PublishAmerica. According to a PublishAmerica news release, Deppen has spent years searching for his one true love and has poured his passion into the books he writes.

“He is highly romantic and sensitive, especially about finding his true love,” the publisher wrote. “His greatest fulfillment would be to find true happiness with the one person who completes his fairytale.”

Deppen said the true inspiration for “Whispering Moments” was a mystery woman, someone he hasn’t yet met, but he knows exists somewhere.

“So I wrote about what and who she would be,” he said.

Deppen’s poems have appeared in poetry.com’s “Immortal Verses” and he recently was nominated for the Web site’s “Poet of the Year Award” in 2007.

When writing, Deppen enjoys the feeling of creating and discovering the random thoughts “locked within my soul,” and transforming those feelings into passionate words.

“It cleanses the soul,” Deppen said. “There is a feeling of fulfillment when you can turn what is in your mind into something others will read and be touched in ways only the heart can understand.”

For Deppen, the publishing process was easy. He submitted the book of poetry to the publisher, and he said the company took care of the rest, including the printing, distribution and advertising, and the sales.

“Other than my input on the cover and some editing, I really didn’t have much to do after the book was written,” Deppen said.

After the initial shock wore off of knowing “Whispering Moments” was published, Deppen said the best part of the process was the excitement of knowing his book was all over the world, in places he may not even know exist.

“To think people all over the world would be reading my words is more than a little overwhelming,” he said.

The hardest part, Deppen added, was wondering how the book would be received and whether it would be accepted or not.

“I think that’s something every artist or writer goes through — did I get my point across, and did it have an effect on someone?” Deppen said.

Deppen said he is working on a sequel to “Whispering Moments,” called “Whispering Moments — Undying Love,” as well as a children’s book series, “The Searching Prince,” and that both will be in publication shortly.

Deppen attributes much of his success and talent to God, who he said blessed him with the ability to write and guided him to where he is today.

“I truly believe God wanted me to write the words of love He felt a man and woman should share as one for eternity,” he said.

Deppen will hold a book signing from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 4 at Otto Book Store, 107 W. Fourth St.

“Whispering Moments” retails for $14.95.
